Colloidal stable nanoerythrosomes of 200 nm average diameter were prepared.

Addition of extra phospholipid (DPPC) to the system resulted in vesicle-like formations.

Membrane proteins and their aggregates torn out from the erythrocytes form vesicle-like entities with the excess lipid molecules.

The nearly spherical vesicles frequently exhibit polyhedral morphology.

Nanoerythrosomes are proposed as a new type of biomimetic, cell derived nanocarriers.
