可重构计算技术及其在地球物理中的应用前景

摘要
石油地球物理勘探一直是高性能计算技术的主要应用领域之一,集群已成为高性能计算的主流体系架构。但是,随着地球物理计算对高性能计算需求的不断提升,集群系统节点规模不断提高,一方面大大提高了系统建设、运行、维护、管理及应用软件开发的复杂性,另一方面在提高系统总体性能方面也越来越受到较大的制约。基于现场可编程门阵列(FPGA)的可重构计算技术,将有可能在不远的将来替代集群计算技术成为高性能计算的主流技术。在可重构计算系统中,硬件信息(可编程器件的配置信息)可以象软件程序一样被动态调用或修改。可重构计算技术将硬件软件化,使可重构计算系统既具有软件计算方式的灵活性和可升级性,又具有硬件计算系统的高性能和并行性。可重构计算技术的特点使得它在地球物理计算领域具有广阔的应用前景,部分研究结果已经向我们展示了这种前景。
Petroleum geophysical prospecting has always been one of the main application fields of high performance computing (HPC) technology, and cluster has become the primary architecture of HPC. However, with the increasing demands in geophysical computing, the scales of cluster systems are increasing, which complicates the system construction, operation, maintenance, and software development. Fortunately, with the rapid development of field programmable gate array (FPGA), clusters are likely to be replaced by reconfigurable computing systems as primary architecture of HPC in the near future. In the reconfigurable computing system, the configuration of hardware (programmable devices) can be dynamically loaded or modified just like software. The reconfigurable system makes hardware look like software, which makes computing system flexible, upgradable, and having high performance and parallelism. The advantages of reconfigurable computing technology promise its wide applications in geophysical computing, and some of the research results have shown its bright future.
