In this paper, the analyses of the residual stress state and the fracture mechanical properties of the interface of Al/Mg compounds which were produced by hydrostatic coextrusion are presented. Residual stress investigations were performed using the hole drilling method and a new developed evaluation procedure based on numerical simulation. The results of the analyses show low residual stress values. For the fracture mechanical analyses it was required to develop a special geometry of the specimen. The absolute value of the stress intensity factor and the energy release rate were determined. Concluding, the fracture mechanical characteristic of the interface can be classified as brittle.
