Development of silica based coatings on zinc particles for improved oxidation behavior in battery applications

Silicate coatings were synthesized for reducing the corrosion of battery grade zinc. Coating syntheses were realized by CVD in synthetic air and CSD under argon. Compositions of coated zinc before and after KOH treatment were analyzed. Oxidation behavior in 6 M KOH was studied by thermodynamic and experimental data. Zinc oxidation stability was increased in case of silicate based coatings on zinc.
