Mitigating N2O emissions from cropping systems after conversion from pasture − a modelling approach

Very high N2O emissions after land-use change from pasture to cropping. Annual N2O and yields were well predicted with APSIM with minimal calibration. Accounting for N2O transport in APSIM improved simulation of daily N2O emissions. Short fallow between termination of pasture and cropping reduces N2O emissions. N fertiliser can be greatly reduced in the first years after pasture termination.
