Antiviral activity of prickly pear cladode extract was found on RNA plant viruses. Purification of the protein involving in antiviral activity of prickly pear extract. Interaction of isolated protein with CMV RNA, but not with viral coat protein. The antiviral protein has RNase, but not DNase and protease activity. Prickly pear can be regarded as an encouraging source of antiviral protein.
