Exploring the role of pendant amines in transition metal complexes for the reduction of N2 to hydrazine and ammonia

Preparation of group 6 and FeN2 complexes bearing phosphine ligands with pendant amine groups are reviewed. Examined the effects of pendant amine bases on MN2 reactivity with protons. Acid addition formed hydrazine, ammonia, MNxHy intermediates, and M-hydrides. Acid reactivity patterns of rare phosphine-supported CrN2 complexes are described.
