Intracranial EEG (iEEG) is necessary in some patients prior to epilepsy surgery. iEEG aids to define the epileptogenic zone and is used to map eloquent cortex. Subdural grid, depth electrodes and stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) are in use. Subdural grid, depth electrodes and SEEG differ in limitations and advantages. Approach to iEEG should be individualized depending on patent need.
