Firstly, a planar chiral metamaterial structure utilizing metal-silicides is proposed in the infrared region. Not only giant circular dichroism and optical activity are observed in this structure, but also it has advantage of being compatible with semiconductor processing.
Secondly, for the proposed structure, giant circular dichroism with a high extinction ratio and large polarization rotation angle are obtained simultaneously through tailoring Drude model parameters (ωp and ωτ) of metal-silicides. It offers excellent potential for applications as a multi-functional optical device, such as polarization convertor and circular polarization detector.
At last, for the proposed structure, the effective refractive index of normally incident LCP wave is negative at the magnetic resonance point in the infrared region.
