Two small no take MPAs were implemented in the southwestern coast of Portugal in 2011. To evaluate its effects, structure of its fish assemblages were studied for 3 years. Fish abundance significantly increased after MPA designation. Changes in fish assemblages structure were evident after only 3 years of protection. MPAs key to sustainable fisheries and protect species with conservation interest.
