An unusual mantle mineral group consisting of more than 100 species (or subsp ecies) minerals was discovered in chromite from the Yarlung Zangbo ophiolite bel t, Tibet. It includes native element minerals alloys, oxides (arsenides) and sil icates. According to experimental data, some of the minerals are ultrahigh-press ure minerals, possibly formed at the Earth's core-mantle boundary, and are the p roducts of chemical reactions between liquid iron of the Earth's outer core and silicates at the base of the lower mantle; others might be derived from the lowe r mantle, transitional zone and upper mantle. The mantle mineral group in Tibet has great significance in mineralogy and geodynamics.

This paper is mainly devoted to the refinement of the crystal unit cell param eters of the native manganese oxide from the supergene oxidation zone of the Xia ngtan manganese deposit, Hunan Province. With the computer programs of Rietveld- DBW 9411 and Pirum, it is revealed that the body-centered monoclinic cryptomelan e is the main phase of the mineral. It is also pointed out that the troubles of refining are caused by the extreme difficulty in finding a single crystal partic le and by the XRD pattern characterized by broadening, relatively high backgroun d and asymmetry.

Attapulgite is of certain mineralogical features in chemical composition, X-r ay diffraction and infrared spectrum. In Tarim Basin, it is primarily distribute d in Palaeogene, secondly in Cretaceous and Neogene. The formation is closely re lated to these geological factors such as arid-semi arid paleo-climate and water medium enriched with magnesian ions.

The petrochemicl characteristics and geneses of the Tertiary igneous rock in the Jiyang Depression, Bohaiwan Basin were discussed based on the chemical compo sition, REE and isotopic analyses of rocks. The Tertiary basalt in the Jiyang De pression can be divided into tholeiite and alkali two series. The alkali series basalt was mainly agpaitic series, and the Tertiary basaltic magmatite of this a rea whose eruptive depth was 150¡«230km was mainly continental tholeiite of cont i nental rift genesis. During the forming process of magma, mixing reaction happen ed among different source area, and melting degree decreased gradually from the Paleocene to the Oligcene, which suggested that the mantle source depth of magma increased gradually. These cognitions will of important reference significance to hydrocarbon exploration in magmatic rock.

Study of petrology of quartz monzonites from Dashui area suggests that the Zh onggezhala, Zhongqu and Ge'erkuohe bodies are derived from a comagmatic region. Although their crystallization temperature of about 700 ¡æ¡«800 ¡æ is ex actly alike, the emplacement depth among them is very different, from 20 km¡«22 km of Zhonggezhala through 16 km of Zhongqu to 8 km¡«11 km of Ge'erkuohe towards the east. Moreover, the later two bodies show a signature of subvolcanic rock. This implies that hypabyssal magma is beneficial to the gold mineralization in t he Dashui area. This is why the large-scale gold deposit was defined in the vici nity of Ge'erkuohe and Zhongqu bodies, but only ore spot was found nearby Zhongg ezhala body.

Nd isotopic characteristics of rocks suggest that the granite resulted from t he mixing of the crust material with the mantle material, and that the mantle ma terial derived from the deep source got into and was distributed unevenly in the granite body. Under the Mesozoic background of lithosphere thinning in East China, the mantle fluid underplating induced the re melting of Meosoproterozoic strata, forming granitic magma.

It is a kind of acid-intermediate and calc-alkaline igneous rock, with the stickup characteristics of SiOª2 greater or equal to 56%, Alª2Oª3 greater or equal to 15%, relatively depletive HREE an d Y (Y less then or equal to 18¡Á10ª¬ª©-6ªª, Yb¡Ü1.9¡Á10ª¬ª©-6ªª, high Sr(>400¡Á 10ª¬ª©-6ªª), La/Yb and Sr/Y, as well as positive Sr anomaly but absent or sligh tly negative Eu anomaly. There are two types of adakites with different petrogen esis: one is formed by the melting of subducting young slab, and the other is fo rmed by the partially melting of basaltic lower crust under the continental accr etion setting. Adakites are important indicators of ore deposits.

Combined with the discus sion of the sedimentary basic equation and the signification of every parameter, the forming mechanism of sequence boundary and the principles of lake regressio n and lake transgrassion were interpreted. The formation of the sequence boundar y was controlled by climate changing, structural lifting and differential vibrat ory movement which are the three forming mechanisms of the sequence boundary.

ª¤There are many kinds of reef in Tazhong area of Tarim Basin, Northwest China in age of Middle-Upper Ordovician. The main reef-building organisms are ª§Sponge s, Calathium, Stromatoporoids, Corals, Crytalgaes, Bryozoans, Blue-green algae, Ch orophyteª§ and ª§Rhodophyteª§ in Solenoporaceae. The reef can be divided into ca lcilut ite mound, framework reef and baffle reef. The analysis on the reef encountered during the drilling shows that the calcilute mound is mainly formed in continent al shelf and inner zone of the shelf margin, while framework reef and baffle ree f are mainly in the shelf and the shelf margin. And by studying the sedimentary facies and the features of seismic reflection in this area, it can be predicted that reef with the distribution shapes of belt and discontinuous belt can be fou nd in the shelf margin area of Tazhong uplift and in the middle area of northern slope of Tazhong area.

The formation of traps was related to the evolution of base levels. The sub-lacustrine fan and slope-moving turbid ity fan which consisted of the main reservoirs were formed during rising stage o f the base level, and the slump turbidite was formed during the falling of base level.
