On the basis Assumption of Mononobe-Okabe theory, the theoretical formula of the unit seismic earth pressure, the resultant seismic earth pressure and the point of action of resultant seismic earth pressure for the case of uniform distribution and linear distribution of seismic acceleration along the height of wall are obtained. The effects of various factors on seismic earth pressure and distribution are also investigated. The results show that the resultant seismic earth pressure is the same as that given by Mononobe-Okabe theory, the distribution of seismic earth pressure is non-linear,the point of action of the resultant seismic earth pressure is 0.42-0.46 times higher than the height of backfill above the foundation, and it is identical with a large number of experimental results.
