In order to investigate the seismic behaviour of multistorey brick building with frame structure in its first storey, two structural models are tested on shaking table. One is constructed with steel encased reinforced concrete(SRC) shear wall in its first storey while the other is constructed with ordinary RC shear wall. The dynamic behaviour and elastoplastic response of the two models are studied on the basis of test results and computer aided analysis. It is found that the aseismatic behaviour and capacity of the model with SRC shear wall are much better than the one with ordinary RC shear wall. And as a result, using SRC shear wall in the first storey of the building can be recognized as an effective way to improve its aseismatic capacity as well as a new attempt for that further studies is needed.
