Using the data from China Education Panel survey(CEPS), we studied the relationship between family economic conditions and children's academic performance. The regression results show that there is a significant positive relationship between the current economic conditions, the economic conditions before the primary school or the relative income situation compared to the surrounding and children's academic performance. Parental supervision and inspection to children's homework has a significant positive impact on children's academic performance and the coefficient is far greater than the coefficient of family economic conditions. Parents' strictness to their children also has a significantly positive impact on children's academic performance. Therefore, parents devote energy into children's study has the substitution effect of family economic conditions.
