In 1990s,Translation Studies took a sociological turn. At present, however, the Sociology of Translation remains a fledgling branch in Translation Studies. The first part of this paper offers a retrospect of the trend, hot topics and their evolution, and the most cited literature and authors in the area from 1998 to 2017 based on the Cite Space system. Then, some relevant discussions concerning the future development of studies in Sociology of Translation are followed and they include: expansion of research aside from Bourdieu's concept of habitus; increase of sociological studies in interpreting; comparative studies in Sociology of Translation; building of the framework of the discipline as well as its theoretical models.
