Driveline durability including transmission and axle remains as a major focus for automotive manufactures and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).Majority driveline failures are related to gears,bearings,seals and synchronizers.Recent Lubrizol market survey indicated that in China 40% of field failures of manual transmissions are related to synchronizer,38% of manual transmission failures and 40% of axle failures are related to seal.To enhance driveline components durability and extend vehicle life Lubrizol has developed a new automotive gear oil technology,which is referred to as CHINA GL-5 PLUS,and is a well-balanced total driveline lubricant (TDL) additive technology for manual transmissions and axles.This new technology can significantly improve seal and synchronizer performance and durability on top of extended gear and bearing life and protection.In this paper we present an experimental study to demonstrate the significant performance improvement by using CHINA GL-5 PLUS.Experimental procedure has taken into consideration of majority Chinese customer usage on the road during test duty cycle design.The experiment also used a typical GL-5 fluid as baseline for comparison purpose.The test results showed that CHINA GL-5 PLUS representing a new level of gear oil performance has superior seal protection with extended service life compared with a typical API GL-5.
