摘要

Complexities of today's water challenges rival any faced in the world of applied geophysics. Unfortunately, after a quick glance into the crystal ball, these problems look to do nothing but escalate as time marches on. It seems, with ever-increasing frequency, questions and needs more probing and demanding keep floating to the surface, each with seemingly unfathomable goals. For example, it has become common on contaminant investigations to request/require not only identification of potential source locations but delineation of actual volumes within an aquifer. Or let's not forget the frequent requests to tackle the daunting task of monitoring and predicting flow and transport characteristics in highly variable and complex aquifers. As the demands for water increase, hydrogeophysicists will continue to be asked to examine stifling problems given the most recent advances and capabilities technology has to offer.
