A mononuclear compound, [Co^II(pyterpy)₂](PF₆)₂路2CH₃OH [2; pyterpy = 4鈥?(4鈥?pyridyl)-2,2鈥?6鈥?2鈥?terpyridine], shows a phase-transition-coupled, abrupt spin transition with a 9 K wide hysteresis that can transform to a spin-crossover compound, [Co^II(pyterpy)₂](PF₆)₂路2CH₂Cl₂路CH₃OH (3).
