Effect of ground motion filtering on the dynamic response of a seismically isolated bridge with and without fault crossing considerations

The dynamic response of a seismically isolated bridge near or crossing a fault is calculated. A near-fault ground motion record processed with and without a displacement offset is used. High-pass filtering of ground motion has little effect on the seismic response of a bridge near a fault. The seismic response of a bridge crossing a fault is underestimated when using a high-pass filtered record. Permanent ground displacement is important for the analysis and design of a bridge traversed by a fault.
