This study aims to make ‘green’ ship recycling economically competitive. The tools and techniques of operations and environmental management are reviewed. Material flow analysis (MFA) emerged as a promising tool. The proposed methodology of MFA is applied on a 11044 LDT handymax bulk carrier. The resulting flow diagrams are used to analyze various recycling planning scenarios.
