One-dimensional compression tests and secondary consolidation tests on undisturbed and remolded Shanghai soft clays were conducted using odometer. Effects of the applied pressure and over-consolidated ratio on the coefficient of secondary consolidation and correlation of compression characteristics and secondary consolidation characteristics of Shanghai soft clay are studied. It was found that the coefficient of secondary consolidation of disturbed Shanghai soft clay changes with the applied loading and coefficient of secondary consolidation of remolded Shanghai soft clay is constant and independent on the applied loading.
