Taking Yanqi County, Xinjiang, China, as a case, based on the land-use maps and remote sensing images in 1976, 1994 and 2009, the paper analyzed the temporal-spatial process of land use change and land salinization dynamics. The results showed that, from 1976 to 2009, there was not significant change of land use patterns in the study area with a little increase of cultivated land and decrease of grassland. However, the total area of salinized land was growing continuously, which is about 8.85% in 2009. Furthermore, the area proportion of salinized land in the moderate and severe levels grew excessively.
