详细信息
摘要

The Xiaoshan Volcano in Cangzhou, Hebei Province, is located on the coastal plain, 3km northeast of Haixing County. Its elevation is 35m, about 30m above the ground. The Xiaoshan is a hill composed by volcanic deposits, including clastic tuff, tuffite, tuffaceous sand and clay layers, olivine basalt. Xiaoshan Volcano is one of the few outcropping Quaternary volcanos on Hebei Plain, even North China Plain, and it is probably the last active volcano on North China Plain. Therefore, the study of this volcano is quite important, however, no detailed chronological data for this volcano has been obtained until now. In this study, seven samples were collected from the ground surface and drill hole of Xiaoshan Volcano, and dated by ESR method. Quartz grains were picked out from all samples, indicating that the volcanic deposits are not pure tuff, but mixed with surface materials during volcanic activities. The ESR ages of the samples are in agreement within error range, about 41.48.6ka in average, this proves that the activities of Xiaoshan Volcano probably occurred 41.4ka ago, and in the late period of Late Pleistocene.
