Heavy Metal Ecological Risk Assessment of Soil: A Case Study on Typical Gold Fields

     Present situation of heavy metal pollution and distribution in soil of goldfields are studied. Our results indicate that heavy metal pollution, such as Cd, As, Hg, Cu, Pb, Zn, is the main cause of soil pollution and goldfields three waste is the main source of soil heavy metal pollution. The contribution of three elements, Hg, Cd, As, to soil pollution reaches 94% at Ggoldfield 1 with Hg alone contribution 77%. The contribution of five elements, Hg, Cd, As, Pb, Cu, to soil pollution reaches 97% at Goldfield 2 with Hg alone contribution 61%. About 66% of soil samples studied here show strong potential ecological harm of heavy metal elements, which accounts for -80% of the controlling area of the studied golfields, providing a scientific basis for pollution controll of gold field.
