Transfer coefficient method and FLAC-3D model were adopted to calculate the stability factor of an unstable slope respectively. The value and position of additional load were altered for analyzing the effect of load on slope stability. The studies show that both results are in general agreement while the 3D method produces a stability factor closer to that by the field survey than the 2D one. And stability decreases as the load increases at the same position while stability increases to a certain point, where it remains, as the position deviates.
