The original deposit of Guilin “chicken-blood-red jasper” lies in the formation of Sanmen set, Danzhou group, Paleozoic Erathem around Sanmen in Longsheng of Guilin. Analyses of polarizing microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction and determination of physical properties indicate that the “Blood” of “chicken-blood-red jasper” is composed of particulate quartz and the dust-like hematite shows a micro-granoblastic texture, including crystalloblastic texture. Quality evaluation of “chicken-blood-red jasper” is mainly based on blood color, blood type, blood shape and blood concentration. “Chicken-blood-red jasper” is classified into four grades: highest grade, top grade, general grade and low grade.
