Optimal Operation Scheduling of Multiple Pump Units on variable speed operation with VFD in the East Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project

In order to reduce the pump electricity cost with the flow demand satisfied, an operation optimization problem is formulated for the third Huaiyin pumping station and the mathematical model of optimal daily operation with variable speed is established with variable speed drive for multiple pump units. With the characteristics of the mathematical model analyzed, an improved dynamic programming algorithm is utilized to reduce the dimensionality of the optimization problem and thus the computation time to facilitate in the practical engineering application. Through the study on the operation of the third Huaiyin pumping station, optimal operation scheduling of multiple pump units with variable frequency drive(VFD) can effectively reduce the electricity cost.
