[Purpose/significance] By analyzing the latest research progress of library science abroad, this paper hopes to provide some references for the development of librarianship. [Method/process] This paper systematically reviews the papers published in three foreign professional journals: Library Trends,Journal of Documentation, Library and Information Science Research in 2018 from the aspects of research sources, themes, methods, hotspots, frontiers and so on. [Result/conclusion] According to the analysis, foreign library science research in 2018 mainly focused on the following seven topics: information analysis and research, information behavior, information processing, informetrics, information technology, library management and basic research of library science. Among them, interdisciplinary information analysis and research, and diversification of library services became hotspots in foreign library science research; while embodiment information and library philosophy became the frontiers, which to some extent reflected the trends of foreign library science research in the past year.
