In the traditional process, the CO_2 of flue gas is recovered by the MEA absorption, and the CO_2 is used as feedstock for urea production in the gaseous form. A new process for recovering CO_2 from flue gas by ammonia absorption and then returning the obtained ammonium bicarbonate solution to the urea plant for urea production was proposed, and its feasibility was discussed.Compared with the traditional MEA process, the ammonia process is simplified, eliminating the CO_2 regeneration process. For the new process, the steam consumption in the CO_2 recovery section is significantly reduced, even though both of steam and power consumption in the urea section are slightly increased, the overall energy consumption is reduced, and the total cost is significantly reduced. This new process is technically and economically feasible.
