Flashbacks in posttraumatic stress disorder have two clinical peculiar aspects. The first one is the active autonomic system in association with the somatic state that reproduces the previous experience of the traumatic event. The second one is made of sensory associations: pictures, smellings and sounds mix up during the flashbacks. The authors describe these specificities through five clinical red-flags. They then discuss about the psychopathological processes related to these phenomenon.
