A new type of intramolecular carbene cascade reaction of alkynyl-tethered styryl diazoesters is presented, which is terminated with a formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition to give the bicyclic cyclopentadiene derivatives in high yields and selectivity. Additionally, it was found that the 尾-H shift is the dominating process in the case of alkyl alkyne-tethered substrates.
