Borohydrides, such as LiBH4, have been studied as candidates for hydrogen storage for their high hydrogen contents. However, the high dehydriding temperature and irreversibility prevent them from practical application. Attempting to overcome the hardening, several bimetallic borohydrides were synthesized using wet chemistry, high pressure reactive ball milling, and sintering processes. The investigation found that the thermodynamic stability indicated by dehydriding temperature was reduced considerably and the dehydrided bimetallic borohydrides reabsorbed some of hydrogen released, but the full rehydrogenation is still a challenge. Due to the hydrogen inert intermediates formed during dehydrogenation, the long-term reversibility of bimetallic borohydrides is uncertain.
