Phagocytic cells constitute a primary defence response against invading pathogens. Since stimulated phagocytes exhibit chemioluminescence due to the production of reactive oxygen intermediates (ROI), a quantitative assessment of phagocytosis (CL) has been applied to marine fish (Dicentrarchus labrax) phagocyte response. The leukocytes were obtained by separating cell suspension from head kidney and peritoneal exudate.
