A new method for urea determination based on fluorescence from a urease bioconjugated ZnS QD. Bioconjugation of ZnS QDs to urease via amide bond to obtain the ZnS QDs-urease bioconjugate. Immobilized urease hydrolyses urea, pH changes caused the deprotonation of ZnS QDs and fluorescence intensity increases. The biosensor response shows wide dynamic range 4 × 10−9 M to 4 × 10−3 M and low detection limit (< 4 × 10−9 M). The method has been validated with a spectrophotometric method and advantage is the reduce use of enzyme for urea analysis.
