~ 35 Ma gabbros in southern Tibet show enriched composition. Parental magmas of gabbros were generated by hydrous melting of metasomatized mantle. Lithospheric mantle beneath Lhasa has been metasomatized by subducted Indian continental sediments. Continental subduction played a key role in the earlier formation of the Tibetan Plateau.
