A Bibliometric analysis was performed, establishing the most influential publications in emergency abdominal surgery. Vascular surgery, risk assessment and gastrointestinal surgery are the topics most commonly cited. Emergency surgery for cancer and intra-abdominal sepsis are relatively poorly represented.
