Anionic phospholipids differ in their interactions with phospholipase A2 (PLA2). Monolayers of phosphatidylglycerol (PG) are readily and entirely hydrolyzed by PLA2. After partial hydrolysis of cardiolipin (CL) monolayer inhibition of PLA2 is observed. The differences between CL and PG are related with the hydrophobicity of the lysolipids.
