Four ring-closing analogs of Desmethylxanthohumol were synthesized. The catechol motif is critical for the antioxidant activity. The dimers show better antioxidant activity than the corresponding monomers. Compound 14d was identified as the most potent antioxidant activity. Compound 14d decreased apoptosis in H2O2-treated PC12 cells.
