Material is the most important factor explaining poor seismic behavior of buildings. Use of sea sand and low strength concrete caused strong corrosion level of steel bars. Mylonitization of coarse aggregates causes enormous reduction of concrete strength. Thousands of buildings that survived the earthquake use the same material and have high seismic vulnerability. Use of sea sand and mylonitized rock materials shall be prohibited immediately.
