A method to automate routine biostratigraphy, thereby delivering faster drill steering and basin model verification. A system to act as a repository for taxonomic knowledge which is currently lost when biostratigraphers retire. Given a basic knowledge of microfossil groups by an expert, GeoDAISY can teach itself and improve its own performance. GeoDAISY can identify microfossils more consistently than human experts. It can cope efficiently with large quantities of data and is capable of deep learning and data mining. GeoDAISY is implemented in the C programming language and is therefore highly portable.
