We mapped a 200,000 km3 sill complex in the Barents Sea (BSSC) covering 900,000 km2.
Up to 20,000 Gt of carbon were potentially mobilized from the BSSC contact aureole.
Ar/Ar dating indicates a 122–125 Ma age for the BSSC and a 80–90 Ma alteration event.
Rapid release of aureole greenhouse gas may have started the Oceanic Anoxic Event 1a.
