Experimental study on the influence of geometrical parameters on the cavitation erosion characteristics of high speed submerged jets

Cavitation erosion was investigated on Cu samples with a high speed submerged cavitating jet.

Small-diameter (0.4–0.6 mm) water cutting nozzles were used.

The erosion rate and weight loss were calculated after long term exposure (1800 s).

Effect of the standoff distance, nozzle diameter and angle of attack were investigated.

Maximum erosion rate in function of these parameters were determined.

Microscopic analysis of the erosion damage is presented.
