New principals on the adsorption of alkyl compound by Mg-Al oxide: Adsorption kinetics and equilibrium studies

Mg–Al oxide has been shown to be effective for adsorbing organic anions in water. Kinetic modeling shows that the reaction occurs in two stages. A fast first stage involves the hydration of Mg-Al oxide to form Mg–Al LDH. The slower second step corresponds to the diffusion of alkylsulfate in the interlayer of the LDH. The anion uptake is due to dominance of hydrophobic interaction over electrostatic interaction.
