Our previous data suggested that years of lithium treatment are associated with reduced eGFR in BD patients. Tag SNPs in genes previously associated with kidney function or Li mechanism of action were genotyped in 70 BD patients. rs378448, located in ACCN1 gene, significantly interacted with years of lithium treatment in predicting lower eGFR. SNPs in ACCN1 may be involved in the susceptibility of BD patients to develop renal dysfunctions induced by lithium treatment.
