Wildlife conservation in mature pine plantations depends on understory vegetation. Understory vegetation is insufficient to support P. castaneus at clearcut stands. Clearcut stands without understory vegetation can act as a barrier to movement. Sustainable forestry involves retaining understory after cutting.
