A major contaminant of concern in the water supply is boric acid. A strategy to confine functional N-methyl-d-glucamine groups within the cage of a metal–organic framework (MOF) for a highly selective boron-specific composite adsorbent is presented. The strategy enables an ultrahigh loading of functional N-methyl-d-glucamine groups compared with the conventional surface-modified or bulk-polymerized boron-selective adsorbents.
