A Guide to tailings dams and impoundments: design, construction, use and rehabilitation; conception construction, exploitation et rehabilitation
摘要
The failures of the Aberfan coal waste dump in South Wales, UK, in 1966 and Buffalo Creek coal waste tailings dam in West Virginia, USA, in 1972, focused attention on the potential hazard created by mining waste disposal, particularly of liquid or semi-liquid wastes, as both these failures caused more than 100 deaths. Subsequent failures of tailings dams at Bafokeng (1974), Dorowa(1981), Stava(1985), and Merriesptuit(1994), have demonstrated that this hazard still persists.
