Geological Characteristics, Genesis and Economical Significance of Yangquan Dolomite Deposit for Magnesium Smelting, Yuxian in Shanxi

Magnesium is important green metal energy in the new century. Dolomite for magnesium smelting is necessary material to produce the metal of magnesium. Yangquan dolomite deposit for magnesium smelting of Yuxian, Shanxi is situated in the eastern of Luliang-Taihang fault block and Wutai mountain block rise. The dolomite ore body is distributed in Sanshanzi group of upper Cambrian-lower Ordovician with generally monocline structure of north-west strike and south-west dip. The ore-bearing rocks are middle-thick layer dolomite, micro-macro crystalline or middle-macro crystalline granular texture and blocky or thin-layer structure. Genesis and evolution of the deposit experienced three stages of sedimentation, dolomitation and recrystallization. Average grade of the deposit is MgO 21.20% ,SiO2 0.67% ,K2O+Na2O 0. 076%, with less variation in grade. Yangquan dolomite for magnesium smelting is a large mine, and there is a good development prospect.
