Iron-manganese mineralization in the Guoergou-Keletebaikeqiate zone in the state-owned Machang area of southwestern Tianshan Mountains is closely associated to basalt with siliceous rocks. Ore bodies are present in siliceous rocks of the Lower Carboniferous basalt formation(C1xw) and mineralization is strictly controlled by basalt rock group, regional faults and adjacent secondary fractures, which are also confined within geophysical anomalies. The ore-bodies are present in stratiform and stratoid structures, in which the ores are of alphanitic-microlitic and coliform textures, and irregular banded, vein-like, disseminated and crustiform structures, belonging to volcanic eruption and sedimentary deposit. Regionally, a lot of volcanic rocks are distributed along both the south and north sides of the Shihan fault, which are important in ore prospecting in this area.
