The study area is located west of the Luxi basin where the west branch of the Pan-Asia railway, from Dali to Ruili, is designed to traverse. The research and evaluation of its geological characteristics are basal to reasonable and reliable railway design. Macroscopical interpretation of the fault by analyzing the remote sensing image including ETM+ and SPOT was carried out. The fault′s extension at depth in the Quaternary coverage area was also investigated by EH-4 electromagnetic imaging system. Combining with a detailed surface survey, the authors concluded the major characteristics of the Longling-Ruili fault at Luxi area which provides information important for the design and construction of the railway.
